kernel-2.6.18-238.el5.src.rpm

Subject: - [net] add support for dm9601
Message-id: 46FA7E1A.5010501@redhat.com
O-Subject: [RHEL5.2] - [RFE] CRM#1546332 RHEL5 Driver update (backport) required: dm9601.ko
Bugzilla: 251994

BZ: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=251994
IT: https://enterprise.redhat.com/issue-tracker/?module=issues&action=view&tid=125044

Description:
The current kernel for RHEL5 doesn't support Davicom DM9601 USB ethernet adaptor. This
network adaptor is supported by vanilla kernel v2.6.21 and above. I ported back the driver
from upstream into RHEL5 kernel. There was an issue relating to locking. The dm9601 driver
needs a mutex defined 'struct usbnet' but unfortunately the mutex was introduced in version
2.6.19 so it's missing in RHEL5 kernel. This cannot be added because of kabi breakage.
So I used dynamically allocated mutex for locking - see some comments in source.

Upstream status:
Driver is available in v2.6.21 and above

Test status:
Customer did test kernel package with the proposed patch and report that the adaptor works
perfectly.

Ivan
